Fahd supports and trains customers on the use of JTAG emulator probes. He is also the technical lead on the Linuxscope debugger, the first USI developed product, providing Linux kernel, module and application debugging capabilities. Fahd has a BS in Elecrical Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. In his free time he enjoys Racquetball, Tennis, and keeping up with the latest developments in technology and science.

Tim Anderson is a software development manager with over 25 years of experience in software and systems product design & development. Tim has extensive experience in both development and management of software Systems for military, telecommunications, process control and real time systems. Tim has developed and managed software systems for Motorola Government Electronics, and commercial systems for Motorola Computer Group. Tim led the development of the now Carrier Grade Edition products during his seven year tenure at MontaVista Software, Inc. Tim is a founding member of several industry forums such as OSDL Carrier Grade Linux Working Group, now the Linux Foundation, Service Availability Forum, and the MontaVista representative to PICMG.

Santosh led the effort to perform workload analysis and develop optimizations for improving networking performance for Multi-Core IA. Prior to working on Multi-Core IA, Santosh worked on advanced application development for IXP network processors. Santosh joined Intel via the acquisition of Trillium Digital Systems.

David Beal is the Director of Product Management for the VirtualLogix VLX including solutions for Intel® VT™, ARM™, and TI™ C64x DSPs. Prior to joining the VirtualLogix team in 2005, he filled several technical marketing roles including technical writer, product manager, FAE, and Director through a succession of acquisitions by companies, each focusing on real-time or open source Linux tools and solutions. Prior to his work with the software side of embedded systems, he worked as an RF and Test engineer in the fields of avionics system simulation and low power communication systems. Dave graduated in 1990 from State University of New York, Utica with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.

Dan Cauchy is currently the Director of Marketing for Carrier and Mobile Products at MontaVista Software, the leading provider of embedded Linux for intelligent devices and communications infrastructure. Dan has over 16 years of experience in the telecom, data networking and service provider business with responsibilities ranging from product management and marketing to engineering management and product architectures.
Dan currently holds the position of Chairman of the Marketing committee and is on the Steering Board for the Carrier Grade Linux work group at OSDL (now Linux Foundation). Dan represents MontaVista at the SCOPE Alliance, an industry alliance committed to accelerating the deployment of carrier grade base platforms for service provider applications. Dan is also on the board of directors of the Communications Platform Trade Association, an organization driving interoperability of communications platforms. He also represents MontaVista at the LiMo Foundation, an organization dedicated to the advancement of Linux in the mobile industry.

The State of the Kernel
Jonathan Corbet, a founder of LWN.net (Linux Weekly News), is also the lead author of the book Linux Device Drivers, third edition, published by O'Reilly. He is an active kernel developer who consults with companies on kernel development and community relations. Jonathan got his first look at the BSD Unix source code back in 1981, when an instructor at the University of Colorado let him "fix" the paging algorithm. Ever since, he has dug around inside every system he could get his hands on, working on drivers for VAX, Sun, Ardent, and x86 systems on the way. He got his first Linux system in 1993 and has never looked back.

Solving Embedded Development Challenges in the Networking Marketplace
Dan Cronin currently serves as Vice President, Worldwide Design (WWD) for Freescale Semiconductor's Networking & Computing Systems Group. Dan was promoted to this role in November 2006.
Dan's career at Motorola and Freescale began in 1994 when he joined the Motorola Paging group in Boynton Beach, Florida, to work on the MCORE microcontroller and Hawk DSP programs. In 1999, Dan relocated to Austin, Texas, when he became a member of the Architecture and Systems Platform staff, responsible for development of Freescale's ARM and Power Architecture technology-based platforms. In 2003, he took on design management for the entire PowerQUICC III product family and subsequently became Director of Power Architecture Design for WWD. Dan was selected to participate on the Freescale Leadership Team in January 2006.
Prior to joining Motorola, Dan worked at IBM Microelectronics, and he was a member of the Somerset design team in Austin. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree from Clemson University and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Debugging Embedded Linux: Tools and Strategies
Christopher Hallinan is currently field applications engineer for MontaVista Software, living and working in sunny southwest Florida. Chris has spent more than 25 years in the networking and communications marketplace mostly in various product development roles, where he developed a strong background in the space where hardware meets software. Prior to joining MontaVista, Chris spent four years as an independent Linux consultant providing custom Linux board ports, device drivers, and bootloaders. Chris's introduction to the open source community was through contributions to the popular U-Boot bootloader. He is author of Embedded Linux Primer, published by Prentice Hall.

Dirk Hohndel has been an active developer and contributor in the Linux space since its earliest days. Among other roles, he was chief technology officer of SuSE and a vice president of The XFree86 Project. Prior to his position at SuSE, Direk was Unix architect at Deutsche Bank, and a senior software engineer for AIB Software and Platinum Technology. Dirk joined Intel in 2001. He works in the Software and Solutions Group and focuses on the technology direction of Intel's Open Source Technology Center. He is active in many open source organizations, various program committees, and advisory boards.

Mark Huth is an operating systems developer with over 30 years of experience in OS development; including large process control systems at Honeywell, Inc., general purpose Unix and High Avalability systems at Motorola, Inc., and embedded systems with several startups. Mark was on a small team of developers that produced the first IEEE 802.4 Token Bus implementation, and has managed software development teams that produced the first hand-held twisted-pair network cable certification instruments. Mark joined MontaVista Software more that six years ago, working at first on the Carrier Grade Edition and for the past several years focusing on the Linux networking kernel software.

Tom is a technology industry veteran, with more than 26 years of executive leadership in companies from start-ups to billion-dollar giants. As CEO of BlueStar Solutions, Tom guided the company through a successful acquisition by $4.5B Affiliated Computer Services. Prior to that he led Blaze Software through rapid growth, a successful IPO, and its aquisition by Brokat Information Systems AG. From 1996-1998, Tom served in the office of the president and as chief operating officer of Cirrus Logic, a $1 billion diversified semiconductor company. John has a Master's degree in Computer Science (operating systems specialty) from Stanford University, and lives in San Jose, California.

Paul E. McKenney is a distinguished engineer at IBM and has worked on SMP, NUMA, and RCU algorithms for longer than he cares to admit (see http://www.rdrop.com/users/paulmck if you don't believe this). He has recently become quite interested in getting realtime response from mid-range SMP systems. Prior to that, he worked on packet-radio and Internet protocols (but long before the Internet became popular), system administration, business applications, and realtime systems, the latter on early-80s eight-bit systems. He is extremely thankful that today's computers have much more than 64Kbytes of memory. His hobbies include running and the usual house-wife-and-kids habit.

The keeper of the mm tree patchset for the Linux kernel, and the kernel's lead maintainer, Andrew Morton works with Linux creator Linus Torvalds, kernel subsystem maintainers, Linux distribution companies, hardware vendors, and other parties to ensure that the public production kernel meets their needs. He is the final arbitrator on determining what code is accepted into the Linux production kernel, and is known for being a provocative public speaker. Andrew currently works at Google, and was formerly a fulltime OSDL fellow at the Open Source Development Labs. He was previously employed as principal engineer by Digeo Interactive, responsible for the base OS in Digeo's digital home entertainment products. Before Digeo, Andrew was a product development manager for Nortel Networks' R&D labs in Australia.

Jim Ready is a recognized authority in the embedded real-time software industry. He developed the first commercially viable, real-time operating system (RTOS): the VRTX kernel. He founded Ready Systems in 1980, which merged with Microtec Research, went public in 1994, and was acquired by Mentor Graphics in 1995. During this period, Jim served as president of Ready Systems and as CTO of Microtec and Mentor Graphics. Deepak Saxena is the lead kernel maintainer at MontaVista software, a position in which he focuses on various areas including merging patches, providing direction on technology roadmaps, and developing processes. Previous to this role he was the lead maintainer of the Linux kernel port to the Intel IXP4xx and IXP2xxx network processors found on various WiFi, WiMax, and cellular routers. Since 1999, Klaas has been professionally engaged with Linux software development for various companies including Philips and Siemens. In his current job as Field Application Engineer Europe at MontaVista, he visits a lot of customers across Europe and helps them with their strategy to apply Linux in embedded systems. Klaas has been a speaker at various conferences on the topics of Real Time Linux and UMTS - the latter because he is lead developer of 3G mobile communications software for Linux. Klaas also writes as a free-lance author for the Dutch Linux Magazine and several other magazines. He lives in Eindhoven, the Netherlands with his wife Ellen.

In addition to Jason's position as VP of corporate affairs and general counsel of MontaVista Software, Inc., he is a director and founder of Open Bar, a nonprofit organization educating developers and legal professionals about open source/free software. Jason is also a chair of the American Conference Institute's upcoming Software Licensing Agreements conference. Finally, Jason is a finalist in the 2008 Reader's Digest "Tell Us a Joke" contest for his joke "Lawyer in Hell."

Yeah, sure, Don McMillan earned his Masters in EE from Stanford, worked for AT&T Bell Labs as part of the team that designed the world's first 32-bit microprocessor, designed more than 50 standard and ASIC designs at VLSI, and developed for IBM. But that's not why Don McMillan will perform for us. Don joins Vision 2007 because he is funny! The winner of the San Francisco Stand-Up Comedy Competition, he also was a $100,000 Grand Champion on Star Search. He has appeared in feature films, and on TV on The Tonight Show, The Larry King Show, Star Trek: Voyager, Babylon 5, City Guys, and Step by Step. He has headlined in comedy clubs across the nation. In 15 Budweiser commercials, Don played the Bud delivery guy who mans the freshness hotline to protect the world from skunky beer. Don is the only comedian who beta-tests his jokes.
